Questions I get asked frequently

An Ultra Trail Runner’s FAQs…

  • When I run on trails, I don’t listen to music; not even during my ultra challenges. I just simply love being and connecting with nature, listening to the wind, the waves, the birds…it’s incredible.

However, when I run on the road, I definitely listen to music. It keeps me going - especially during hard interval sessions.

  • Believe it or not, but during an ultra (which means anything beyond a marathon distance) I purely enjoy every single second and every step. I think about how blessed I am to be able to run these gorgeous trails. Trust me, I feel 100% positive vibes - and why not? What is there to complain about? This topic will also be a separate post soon.

  • Well, everyone’s why is different and very personal. And for me, it even changes with every run or challenge. In a nutshell: Especially during ultra trail runs I feel home. I feel accepted, loved and connected. It gives me so much joy that it’s the only time I am truly living in the moment. It’s the flow state that you have probably heard about. I found that in trail running.

  • No they don’t and in fact, my cheeks hurt more from smiling than my legs from running 60 km! Yes, I mean it! :D

Mindset it key! All I say is: Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.

  • Nope. I do have Strava and I use it daily. However, I use it not only to track and analyse my progress but also as a very personal journal. I write down all my thoughts and experiences during that training session. And to be honest, I don’t want to share all my deepest thoughts and feelings with the world. However, I’ll be sharing some here on this blog.

  • It’s basically any footrace longer than the traditional marathon length of 42.195 kilometres.
