I’m heartbroken…
Every single article that I write and publish comes from my heart. But this one is going to be a short and very genuine post. I won’t edit or re-read it as I usually do. I just want to get this off my chest and write from the heart.
Yesterday parts of my beloved home trails got devastated by a fire. Seeing this really broke my heart. I wasn’t surprised that it happened though and that’s the sad thing. When does the majority of people finally wake up? When do we all finally start to act and do our very best to slow down and reverse the climate change? If every single one would truly open their eyes and listen to their heart, I am convinced that everyone would take action on climate change. There are so many ways to contribute: A mainly plant-based diet, go fully vegan, use the bike or walk instead of driving to the supermarket that is around the corner, save energy at home, pick up trash (especially if it’s yours), educate yourself and others and the list goes on and on and on…
When I saw the fire yesterday, I nearly started crying. I run these trails every week. Only a few days ago, I was fastpacking (trail running and camping) exactly there. I can’t help but think about all the beautiful nature there, the plants and trees, the wildlife! What about all the lovely animals that I usually see!? And of course the people who live or camp out there. The roads were closed because of the fire. It must have been so scary for them and also for the people on the beach. The fire crossed over to a very popular beach and people needed to be evacuated.
It could have been a wildfire as they’ve been breaking out in England in the last few weeks due to the drought. Or it could have been caused by a barbecue which would be even more outrageous. How ignorant and irresponsible can people be!? Especially in these times plus the warning signs that barbecues are not allowed. I’m running out of words at the moment.
For whatever it’s worth: I’m sending a wholeheartedly thank you to every firefighter and supporter out there as well as to everyone who’s acting on climate change in whatever capacity they can.
I hope that the nature reserve, the trails, the animals and residents of my so beloved home trails (and everywhere else in the world) will recover from this.
