Other Ultra Runners who inspire me (part 1)
In my blog Life in a Run I share my personal ultra trail running and IronMan triathlon journey with you. But the truth is that I wouldn’t be able to share my experiences with you if it wasn’t for all the other incredible, humble and audacious humans who inspire me daily. This blog wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for people like Rich Roll who introduced me into ultra distances with his book “Finding Ultra”. Only a few years ago I had absolutely no clue what an “ultra” is.
So without any further ado, here are some of the incredibly inspiring people who always feed my curiosity to go above and beyond and who make me wonder where my true potential is. I’m going to list only a short description and a link to their social media channels so you can browse through them and discover them yourself. Get ready for some mind blowing stories.
Rich Roll
Rich is a vegan ultra-endurance athlete but that wasn’t always the case. Go check out Rich’s struggles with drugs and alcohol and how he overcame these and became this incredibly inspiring and humble person.
Here’s his website and I highly highly recommend listening to his podcast! The conversations with his guests introduced me not only to ultra trail running and triathlons but also into becoming vegan and finding my spirituality.
Robbie Balenger
Robbie is another plant-based ultra-endurance athlete who lately outran a fully charged Tesla! Yes, you’re reading this right. He ran farther than a fully charged Tesla Model 3 could go on a full battery which is a little over 242 miles.

Courtney Dauwalter
Courtney is an ultra-marathon running who sets records after records. For example, she won the overall 2017 Moab 240 by a 10-hour margin - yes! She’s not only outrunning her wonderful female competitors but also her male competitors! And the most incredible thing about her is that she does that a smile on her face! She truly truly loves trail running.

Lizzy Hawker
Lizzy is another inspiring athlete and also a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year. She also is the race director of the Ultra Tour Monte Rosa. She took her passion for exploring beyond competing in races.

Camille Herron
Camille is basically unstoppable. She currently holds several World Record times at ultra distances, along with the Guiness World Record for the fastest marathon in a superhero costume :)

David Goggins
“Can’t hurt me.” That’s David Goggin’s first book and life philosophy. His aim is to be the toughest motherf*** on earth - and these are not my words but his own and I can tell you: He is just that. Goggins has completed over 70 ultra-distance races and is a former Guinness World Record holder for completing 4,030 pull-ups in 17 hours! Goggins is a Retired Navy SEAL and the only member of the U.S. Armed Forces to complete SEAL training, Army Ranger School, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller training. Do I really need to say more? Go check out his books and websites because his mindset is made of iron.
